January 12, 2004 People frequently think that primal integration is about pain, pain, pain. It's not. It's about feeling and expressing what the body needs to feel and express. If we have eaten food that has spoiled, the first thing we are physically compelled to do is expel it. When we are blocked and dysfunctional due to trauma (repressed pain), the first thing the body needs to do is "bring up" the pain to consciousness and expel it through emotional release. So if pain is in the forefront, we express it. If joy is in the forefront, we express that. In fact, any form of genuine expression is beneficial to the system and helps keep things in balance. A state of health is very much the capacity to feel/perceive/sense all that is happening—with the entire ranges of pain through joy. |
